Hochschule Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences
Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Darmstadt, h_da) puts science into action. With a student body of about 17,000, it is one of the largest and most distinguished universities of applied sciences in Germany. Its excellent reputation is the result of a scientifically grounded, real-world approach to higher education and the professional success of its graduates.
Graduates of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences are particularly popular with HR managers in German companies. This is confirmed by the annual "Wirtschaftswoche" rankings. For the University Ranking 2019, the personnel service provider Universum Global surveyed 650 small, medium-sized and large companies nationwide. From a total of 216 universities of applied sciences in Germany, they were able to select those whose graduates met their expectations particularly well. Accordingly, h_da ranks among the top 10 in Germany in the fields of mechanical engineering (rank 3), computer science (rank 8), electrical engineering (rank 7) and industrial engineering (rank 4).
In the university ranking of the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) 2019, the h_da scores particularly well in terms of practical relevance and preparation for the profession. Accordingly, students of the study courses Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Engineering praise the very good equipment of the practice laboratories. The h_da is here in the national top group. The same applies to the quality of excursions, which students of architecture and environmental engineering rate as very good. The h_da is also top nationwide when it comes to contacts to professional practice. The CHE Ranking lists the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt in the study courses electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering and mechatronics in the national top group.
The high reputation of the h_da study courses is based on a good supervision ratio with manageable groups and a clear practical orientation. Here, science and practice intermesh in a targeted manner. This is because the professors of h_da know what they are doing: They all come from professional practice and know the future professional demands on their students. In the practical professional phases of the study programs, students can also test and expand what they have learned with employers in business and society.
